Getting started

Docs

Every command as you type it, and every limit stated.

What you need

A Mac, a terminal, and during the alpha an invite.

Before you start

woodls runs on Macs with Apple silicon today; Linux comes when its sandbox is ready COMING. During the alpha you’ll need an invite code, and the install comes with it COMING.

Its own summary

Printed straight from today’s build.

What the woodls command printed when asked for help on 26 September 2026: the current build, on one MacBook Pro.

Once per person

It creates your account key.

Open your account

woodls init --country IN --adult

Creates this machine’s account key and opens your account. The country is your own, as a two-letter code; it decides which woodls region serves your requests. --adult confirms you’re 18 or older.

The simplest use

Streamed back as it’s written.

Ask a question

woodls ask "Explain tree rings in one line"

A question may cost at most 5 seeds unless you pass --budget. Secrets and common personal data are taken out before anything leaves your machine; --no-scrub turns that off, and we don’t recommend it.

Lend your computer

It serves only while you’re away.

Host

woodls grow --gguf path/to/model.gguf

The model file must be one the Gateway offers. Your machine joins after serving a short test at the right speed, and pauses when you touch it. --rejoin-after sets how many seconds it waits after you leave (300 unless you say otherwise).

opencode

Through a private proxy on your machine.

Code with an agent

woodls code opencode

Each request may cost at most 5 seeds and the proxy at most 50 a day, unless you set --budget and --daily-cap.

Your balance

And any entry, checked yourself.

Your seeds

woodls whoami
woodls rings balance
woodls rings verify 1234

rings verify checks an entry’s receipt against the ledger and the rangers’ keys, on your own machine; 1234 stands for the entry’s ledger number.

Your own machines

Free, and unseen by woodls.

Groves

The four commands are on the Groves page.
