For families and small teams

Start a private group

Your own computers, serving each other: free, and unseen by woodls.

Private

Your computers talk to each other directly.

What a private group is

Your own computers, or ones you invite, serving each other directly: no credits, nothing through woodls’ server, and woodls sees nothing. A desktop at home can answer the laptop you carry.

Start one

On the computer that will serve.

Four commands

Create a private group on the computer that will serve, then let each other computer in. woodls group invite shows two ways in: six digits for a computer on the same network, and a short link for a computer anywhere, single use and good for up to 24 hours, to send by any messenger. For a friend’s computer, add --friend and their name. A friend’s computer is served the models woodls knows the costs of: gpt-oss 20B, Qwen3.6 35B and Qwen3 8B, which a graphics card of 8 GB holds. Your own computers are served any model file.

woodls group create home
woodls group invite home

On the other computer, join with the link, or with no link and the six digits it asks for, then ask through the group:

woodls group join woodls:…
woodls ask --group home "Summarise these notes"

On a call instead? woodls group invite home --spoken gives a code to read out, a number and two words, and the other person types woodls group join 47 river lantern. One try, open 10 minutes. The two computers meet at woodls’ server, which sees the number and when they met, never the words.

The computer that serves runs woodls host with its model file and --group home, and adds --no-public to serve only its private group.

Limits

  • Every computer in a private group runs woodls.
  • Splitting one big model across your computers comes next COMING.
