The alpha

The first night

Twenty-five hosts on two continents, seventy-two hours, every job checked.

Small, on purpose

A network you can count on your fingers.

What it is

The alpha is one night, seventy-two hours long. Twenty-five hosts on two continents lend their computers; a few more people use them; every job is run again and checked; every seed is written to the Rings. When it’s over, everything that was measured is published here, on other people’s machines instead of ours.

Macs with Apple silicon host first, because their sandbox is built. PCs join when the Linux sandbox is ready COMING.

The date is set when the first twenty-five hosts are ready, and written here. It isn’t set yet.

Twenty-five lines

Empty until the first job runs.

The founding register

The founding register

Twenty-five lines, one for each host of the first night, written in as each machine runs its first job: its name, its species, its city (with its owner’s permission), the time, and the ring that holds the job. The register stays on this page afterwards.

What will happen

Planned, and said so.

The programme

HourPlanned
0The Gateway opens to the first hosts. The first job runs; the first ring is sealed and co-signed.
0 to 72Hosts serve while their owners are away. Every job is run again on our machines and checked.
Every 12 hoursA field note here: woodls awake, jobs done, jobs checked, anything that went wrong, in plain words.
72The Gateway closes to new jobs. The ledger is added up and checked against Tessera’s tool.
AfterEvery figure measured, published on the trust page and in the field notes; the register stays.

Limits

  • This is the plan, and the alpha exists to find out what the plan gets wrong. What actually happened is written here afterwards.
  • One date so far, and it’s a plan: the first invites, around Diwali, 8 November 2026. The night’s own hours are written here once they’re certain.

An invite

Then one command.

How to be in it

Ask for an invite and say which computer you’d lend. We invite in small waves, by machine and country, so the night has the mix it needs; the first are planned for around Diwali, 8 November 2026. Your code comes by email, from a person; you install woodls, open your account with the code, and your line in the register is written when your first job runs.
